The 60 year old farmer lives in Malpaisillo with his 82 year old wife and 85 year old aunt. He was taught the traditional methods of cultivation from his father, but when he heard about the PRODUMER project, he was eager to improve upon his conventional techniques. Magdaleno was one of the first farmers to receive technical assistance from the PRODUMER project. PRODUMER has advised Magdaleno on the most effective times to plant seed, when to weed and how much fertilizer to use. Magdaleno also receives credit financing from MiCredito, another MEDA managed project. MiCredito is a financial institution that provides loans to small and medium sized entrepreneurs throughout Nicaragua. The loans that Magdaleno has received from MiCredito have helped him implement the new technologies introduced by PRODUMER. Any profits that are not invested in the business, Magdaleno uses to provide for his home and his family. |
